 What are the students rights under FERPA?

  • Students have the right to inspect their education records; requests are made to the registrar.
  • Students have the right to request amendments to their education records.
  • Students do not have the right to obtain copies.
  • Students have the right to withhold their directory information from outside parties by requesting non-disclosure of information which could otherwise be released.
  • Each student record is private. It should not be discussed unless there is appropriate authorization.
