What are some examples of data releases?

  • Throwing away copies of transcripts – student information must be shredded.
  • Student paper(s) lying on the ground around campus.
  • Graded papers lying in a public place for students to pick up.
  • Class lists/rosters that include student name, IDs etc. for attendance purposes.
  • Seeking personal benefit or allowing others to benefit personally by knowledge of any confidential student record information.
  • Telling a person who doesn’t have legitimate educational interest where a particular student’s class is located or where the student can be found.
