Working at non-campus locations

Home computing systems generally are not as secure as university systems, and are easier to compromise

  • Avoid accessing or storing confidential information on your home system
  • If you must access confidential information or access university systems from home visit the Technology Services website, or call them at tel.(202) 319-4357

If working at a mobile computing Wi-Fi “hotspot” (such as a coffee shop, hotel lobby, or bookstore) limit your activities to web browsing that does not require a login to a university system.

Avoid services that require you to provide your credentials or personal information.

Utilize the cellular network (e.g. mobile Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G services) to connect to the internet instead of wireless hotspots. These networks are more secure.
